Bankruptcy Filing List

Individuals who are filing bankruptcy will need to obtain a bankruptcy filing list of approved credit counseling and debtor education course providers from their attorney. Under new bankruptcy laws passed in 2005, it is now required that anyone who does not pass a means test completed credit counseling prior to being able to file for Chapter 7 bankruptcy, which is total discharge of debts. Only those companies on this approved list may be in use to fulfill this requirement. In addition to this, all individuals who file bankruptcy, either Chapter 7 or Chapter 13 have requirements, by law to obtain debt education. This process provides an education on managing finances. It must be complete prior to the discharge of the bankruptcy. A list of debtor education providers is obtainable from the U.S. Court's website or from your bankruptcy attorney.
