Filing Bankruptcy Free

Filing bankruptcy free is possible, under limited circumstances. In the United States, filing bankruptcy requires the payment of fees for the court service. These fees will range widely depending on the state's limitations. It is possible for individuals to file bankruptcy and therefore without paying any attorney fees, it is not advisable to do so. Bankruptcy law changes have made it more difficult for individuals to file bankruptcy on their own. These laws require administration of a means test by an attorney or an official of the court. In addition, the new bankruptcy laws require that individuals work through a consumer credit counseling service prior to filing bankruptcy, if the individual does not qualify for immediate bankruptcy qualification. The consumer credit counseling service may also charge a fee, though small, for their services. While filing bankruptcy free may be possible in some context, it is unlikely that the process of filing Chapter 7, 10, 11, or 13 will be completely free.
