New Bankruptcy Laws 2009

There are talks of new bankruptcy laws 2009. Although no official changes to federal bankruptcy laws have been made as of yet in 2009, some Senators and Representatives are working towards that goal. They are hoping to institute new laws to help consumers in protecting themselves against mortgage abuses. Under these new laws, bankruptcy courts would have more control over mortgages and homeowner's rights. The hope is that these new types of laws would put a stop to foreclosure, which has driven down housing values across the country and contributed to the economic meltdown. These laws proposed for 2009 are facing stiff opposition from others and are unlikely to pass during this year. Bankruptcy laws are able to change from time to time according to the needs of the people. The latest significant changes occurred in 2005.
