Filing for bankruptcy is not an easy decision to make, however, it is often the only way for Americans struggling with debt and job loss to recover financially. In general, filing for bankruptcy should be done when no other option will work.
For example, if a homeowner is being foreclosed upon do to a lenders reluctance to modify a loan after it has adjusted from a sub-prime loan, then bankruptcy is likely an option to defend the foreclosure and keep the home.
There are some debt settlement services available, but many of them only put the debtor into an even worse situation. It is best for debtors to negotiate on their own with their creditors.
